I am always amazed by the stories I get to hear from our couples, because each one is so unique and special – and let me tell you Monica and Greg are no exception to this standard! I loved getting to know this couple, they kept me laughing throughout our entire conversation and it’s an honor to share their story.
Tell me a little about you and your fiancé
“I would say we are a really goofy couple! A lot of our relationship is based on laughter and our sense of humor.” Monica and Greg consider themselves “very laid back,” after 8+ years together. For fun the pair will take their pup on hikes and nature walks, and every weekend their favorite thing to do together is make breakfast. “We just bought our home, we love hanging out, watching our shows together, and spoiling our dog, Kimchi.” Sounds like they should probably invite me over soon
How did you two meet?
Monica and Greg met 8 years ago in a bar in Boston. “It was purely random, in the best way,” Monica was out with her guy friends, having a great time, and Greg was out with a bunch of his friends, including a friend visiting from Germany who was set to leave that next day. Greg explained that his friend simply wanted to dance on his last night in the US; “I wanted him to have a good time, so as a favor I said I would help find some fun people to dance with. My plan was to invite her to dance, then introduce her to my friend but I don’t know what happened – I just saw her, tapped her on the shoulder and it turned into something else.” Monica made sure to tell me his pickup line, which was “Are these guys bothering you?” Despite the unusual circumstances and a lot of alcohol in Greg’s system, the pair chatted all night and Monica gave him her number, her first time doing so in a bar. It wasn’t for another several weeks that Greg and Monica went on their first date but it’s been nothing but fun and laughter ever since.
How did you two get engaged?
This may be my favorite story so far. Greg had recently tweaked his back – which for most of us, wouldn’t be the inspiration for our proposal style. “it was Thanksgiving morning, and I had just woken up to hear him yelling for me from the living room. He was lying on his back on the ground, pretending to be in pain from his injured back. I didn’t know he was trying to propose! I was sort of freaking out, trying to help him up. Suddenly he goes, “Hey do you feel that on my back?” which only served to freak me out more, but it turns out the ring box was underneath his back and that’s when he proposed and all I could do was laugh hysterically and say yes.” Greg explained that a classic proposal would never be their thing, so he felt that feigning his injury was perfect for them and their relationship.
What vision do you have for your wedding?
Monica and Greg want their big day to be a blast for everyone. Their aesthetic is casual and rustic, but modern, something they feel will suit the style of their guests. “We know what our guests are capable of, so we just want it to be a fun party in a beautiful location, where we can just enjoy everyone and celebrate us.” This is clearly a fun pair, so I have a feeling their wedding will be an absolute blast.
What vendors are you excited about working with?
While of course, every vendor has been awesome for Greg and Monica, they are particularly excited for their caterer, Trillium Catering. They explained how amazing they were in coming up with a menu that suited their unique desires (apparently Greg loves mini corndogs.) Their wedding also falls on National Donut Day, so glazed donut holes will be present! They are also very excited about their photographer, Cortney Vamvakias, who they said made them feel totally comfortable and made their engagement photoshoot a complete blast. They are also super excited about their videographer, Hindsight Wedding Films. Jenny Luu Hair and Makeup will be making everyone look and feel extra beautiful for the big day, while their DJ, Music Man DJ Service will be the one getting everyone moving.
What made you choose Granite Ridge?
Both Monica and Greg were looking for a rustic barn wedding, but explained it took unbiased help from Micki to truly articulate what type of barn wedding they wanted (as there are many different sorts.) They felt that simply the conversation with Micki was a key part of why they chose Granite Ridge, because they felt taken care of. Upon visiting at Granite Ridge, they fell in love with it immediately. They also loved the flexibility of having the barn for the full weekend, because it allows more time to spend with their loved ones.
