I can’t get enough of how lovely our couples are – I don’t know how we always end up gettingso lucky! I got the chance to chat with Sarah and Nick, and the pair were kind enough to share their beautiful love story with me

Tell me a little about you and your fiancé

The pair both agreed immediately that they’re an outgoing couple, but in different ways. “Nick is really outgoing when you get to know him, while I am more open.” Sarah admitted that she can be sort of the bossy one, but Nick quickly cut in to say “I’m the soft, romantic one and she’s the blunt and edgy one.” It’s clear that these two are the yin to each other’s yang and their balance brings out the best in one another. Nick and Sarah both love music, and spend a lot of their time going to concerts (namely country concerts.) They also have an adorable dog, which they adopted because Nick, in an emotional moment, was convinced the Patriots wouldn’t win – so he bet Sarah that if they DID win, he would take her to get a puppy. We all know the Patriots won, so you can guess how that story ended!

How did you two meet?

The pair met while working at the same restaurant in Foxborough. Sarah explained that Nick only worked on weekends, and his more reserved behavior seemed to be the opposite of her very social nature. “I didn’t really like him at first!” Nick explained that he was simply a busy guy at the time, and was focused on working rather than making friends – but Sarah was clearly someone he wanted to get to know! He messaged her one night to start a conversation, and they hit it off. Shortly thereafter a date was scheduled and they have been together ever since!

How did you two get engaged?

Nick and Sarah’s father are very close, and they had gone out multiple times but Nick just couldn’t quite make it happen. After the 6th time out, Sarah’s mother took it upon herself to make sure the pair was alone together. Finally, Nick managed a nonchalant comment, “I’m thinking about getting married to your daughter.” Being an incredibly relatable father, Sarah’s dad immediately asked for another beer before continuing the conversation. He also brought out Sarah’s siblings to ask for their approval, just to mess with Nick. Of course he said yes, which set in motion a beautiful proposal, so get your tissues ready.

Nick wanted their loved ones to be included in the proposal, so he managed to get Sarah’s friends and family involved in planning a “scavenger hunt” proposal. He selected different locations that were significant to them as a couple – including the restaurant where they first met, Fenway Park, Top of the Hub, Boston Commons, TD Garden, The North End, the Boston Aquarium and the Boston Harbor, where Nick was waiting. At each location, Sarah was greeted by a member of her family or a close friend and they each gave her a little box with a photo of her and Nick at that location and a card with a hint as to where she was being taken next. Nick proposed at the Harbor, and then walked her to a nearby restaurant where all their friends and family were waiting to celebrate with them. I MEAN….

What vision do you have for your wedding?

Sarah, coincidentally went to school for event coordination, so planning a wedding is something Sarah has taken on expertly. She had known right away she wanted her wedding to be vintage and elegant, but natural and rustic. “Thankfully, Nick got on board with that idea immediately!” She’s a Do-It-Yourself-er who has made tons of decorations to prepare for the big day. Both Nick and Sarah definitely also want it to be a party; “Nick is a dancing king, and I’m more of a Bambi on ice.”

What vendors are you excited about working with?

Sarah and Nick, unsurprisingly, are bringing in an amazing team for their wedding day. For the catering, they will be working with Fausto from Blue Elephant. “I’m awkwardly obsessed with our florist Lauren from Fiddleheads Flowers & Vintage Chic Gifts, she’s done an amazing job personalizing everything for us.” They’re also excited about their photographer, Erika DenHoed from Mayden Photography and their videographer, Brittany from 207 Weddings. Their cake will be made by Cakes by Babbs and their DJ will be Rich Valliant from DJ-Limelite Entertainment.

Why did you choose Granite Ridge?

The couple always knew, even before they were engaged, that it was important to them to married in Maine, as Nick and his extended family is from the area and they wanted to make sure it was accessible to everyone. “I actually picked the venue before we got engaged, because we were looking around just for fun because I love weddings, and Nick knew I always wanted a barn venue. He actually found Granite Ridge and showed it to me and I had to tell him that I didn’t want to hear more about it, follow them on social media or anything because if I can’t have it I will be devastated.”  Both Nick and Sarah love the freedom that Granite Ridge allows, because they want to be able to celebrate with their loved ones as long as they can. Nick also added that they appreciated how welcomed they were by Micki, and how they were treated more like family than potential customers.
