We know how important it is that your wedding guests have a nice place to stay while in town for your wedding, so let us introduce you to Wolf Cove Inn, a family-run inn located in Poland, ME that is owned and operated by Roy and Sue Forsberg. It's breathtaking waterfront location and luxury lodging make it an ideal place for your guests to stay and get spoiled. Both Roy and Sue were gracious enough to chat with me so we could all learn more about their beloved Inn.

What inspired you to open Wolf Cove Inn?

Sue and I purchased the Wolf Cove Inn in December of 2013.  It was operating as an Inn at thebed and breakfast in Maine, Maine lodging, wedding hotel, romantic getaway, romantic getaway in Maine time.  When walking the property the first time we saw the Inn that prior Labor Day, the beauty of Tripp Lake and the grounds of the Inn struck us.  The interior of the Inn, however, did not evoke the same feeling. We decided that once we closed the sale, we would immediately close the Inn for 5 months for extensive renovations.  Our goal was to create a luxury lodging experience deeply connected to the surrounding beauty of nature.  We completed that first round of renovations in May 2014 and reopened. Over the next two seasons we learned a lot about what we needed to do to deliver a truly wonderful experience.  We developed a plan to deliver on our goal. Last winter ushered in another round of extensive renovations and the building of a luxury cabin.  We feel we’ve largely met the plan and have created an experience that met our vision.  We’ll likely not undertake further large renovations.  However, we will soon begin a process of renovating the older guest bathrooms as a multi-year project.  Of course, when we are done with that, we’ll probably think of more ways to improve.

Did you have a background in hospitality?

No, not really.  Sue and I were engineers, managers and senior execs leading research and development for high tech companies in Massachusetts.  However, we had a passion for hospitality in the sense that we were constantly hosting events at our home in Massachusetts and our ski home at Sugarloaf.  I like to say that at Sugarloaf, we ran a “bed and dinner” since we constantly hosted family and friends during ski season.

Is there history associated with the building?

In the mid-50s, the first floor was converted to a restaurant – Lobsterland On The Lake.  The restaurant closed in the early 70s and reverted to a family home again. Many folks stop by, recalling with fondness, of that period. During that period, in the 60s, the TV show Route 66 filmed an episode at the restaurant.  William Shatner (prior to Captain Kirk fame) and Joan Crawford both appeared in the episode at the restaurant.  In the mid-90s, a third floor was added to the building and on completion the Wolf Cove Inn was born.

What services do you offer?

We offer luxury lodging in 12 distinct rooms.  Rooms range from value rooms with queen beds and garden views to expansive rooms with king bed, spa tubs and great lake views. We offer a variety of romance packages that allows guests to customize their experience. We also offer something totally unique – the Ultimate Romance Dinner in our Boathouse Bistro.  One couple per evening can enjoy gourmet dining right on the water in the Boathouse.  We also specialize in full service elopements and intimate weddings – no more than 20 people and no onsite receptions. We think we have the perfect setting for those intimate moments.

What is your vision for the future of Wolf Cove Inn?

Our vision is that Wolf Cove Inn is itself a destination, not just a place for folks to stay while in the area.  To that end, we’ve added our “Griddle and Crock” evening dining option for guests of the Inn.  We’ve also just completed dedicating a space at the Inn for offering spa services.  And we’ve rounded out our romance packages by also adding honeymoon packages and proposal/engagement packages.  We also offer concierge services to help folks take advantage of everything our beautiful part of Maine has to offer.

What is your favorite part of owning and operating Wolf Cove?

Our guests!  We truly feel blessed to have met so many wonderful and interesting people in the three years we’ve owned the Inn.  We’ve made some lasting friendships with many of those guests.  A close second is the honor of working with the fantastic folks who take the pride we do in delivering the ultimate romantic lodging experience to our guests.
